Titanium Nitride Product Overview
Titanium nitride (TiN) is a golden-brown to dark powder with a melting point of about 2,930°C and a hardness of around 2,400 HV. Unlike most ceramics, it conducts electricity well, and it is chemically inert.
Its best-known form is the gold-colored coating on drills, cutting tools and decorative parts, usually deposited by PVD from titanium targets in nitrogen. TiN powder is used in cermets together with Titanium Carbide, in conductive and wear-resistant ceramic composites, and in thermal spray coatings. Researchers use nanoscale TiN in plasmonics, electrodes and energy storage.
