Cadmium Sulfide Product Overview
Cadmium sulfide (CdS) is a yellow to orange crystalline powder that is insoluble in water. It is a semiconductor with a direct band gap of about 2.42 eV.
In photovoltaics, thin CdS layers serve as the buffer or window layer in cadmium telluride and CIGS thin-film solar cells, often together with Cadmium telluride. Researchers use CdS for quantum dots and photocatalysis. As a pigment, cadmium yellow is still used in artists’ paints and some high-performance applications where permitted, but uses in plastics and paints are restricted in the EU, and photoresistors containing cadmium are restricted under RoHS.
