Butenafine hydrochloride (C23H27N·HCl) is a white crystalline powder that melts at about 210–214°C. It is a benzylamine antifungal that, similarly to Terbinafine hydrochloride, blocks the fungal enzyme squalene epoxidase.
Pharmaceutical companies use it in 1% creams, sprays and solutions for fungal skin infections such as athlete’s foot and ringworm, which are sold over the counter in several markets.
